Sustainable forest management (Close-to-nature forestry model)

The concept: The sustainable management of forest and forest land to maintain biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity at present and in future without causing any disturbance to ecosystem.

Importance of SFM within the project framework:

1. Stopping the degradation process: Degraded forest will be gradually rehabilitated. This leads to an improved overall quality of the land and growth and yield of forest.

2. Preserving by using: The sustainable utilization of the forests, demonstration of their importance, which will therefore promotes their preservation.

3. Satisfying local needs: Sustainable provision of forest products to the villagers with fuel wood, timber, and non-timber products.

4. Enhancing livelihood: By maintaining the forests in good and productive condition, natural resources like soil, water and microclimate of the whole village get protected.

Three model villages viz. Kathalbari ADC village under Amabassa block, Purba Satanala under Dasda block and Juri RF under Damcherra block have been selected for establishing Close-to-Nature forestry model.
