Dr. A. K. Gupta, CEO & PD, IGDC Project
The Indo-German Development Cooperation (IGDC) Project, which is first of its kind and one of the two externally aided projects in Tripura, aims at 'equitable improvement in the general standard of living of all section of the population, especially schedule tribes, schedule castes, minorities and backward classes and ecological restoration through participatory management of Natural Resources' in 70 indicator villages across 8 block in Dhalai and North Tripura district.

Formal launching of the Project by Hon'ble Chief Minister, Tripura on 12th June 2009 at Ambassa was followed by development of institutional infrastructure in form of setting up of Project offices, namely, Project Management Authority (PMA and District Project Management Authority (DPMA) at Agartala and Ambassa , respectively appointment of Project personnel in PMA and DPMA; appointment of consultants and TC Nodal Officers; etc. Fund Convergence facilitation through different line departments and vesting of Rights among the target beneficiaries under RoFR Act have been two major developments in the target villages. Recently concluded Orientation Workshop has helped developing synergy between FC & TC components besides providing newly recruited technical officers with an opportunity to appraise themselves with the nuances of the Project.

The Project is now well poised to transforming Institutional set-up into good governance through participatory mechanism at the local level resulting into 'Village Development Plans' (VDPs; The VDPs would result in increased participation of the people, and mobilization and allocation of resources for economic development and ecological restoration in their respective areas. The VDPs shall facilitate more authority and channeling of more resources to the local bodies, balanced and equitable distribution of development across the target villages.
